A new toy on the wish list of every child that attends a County Antrim playgroup has been made a reality thanks to a £300 donation from Energia – the leading provider of electricity acrossIreland.

Through the company’s Helping Hands employee sponsorship scheme, staff at Dervock Playgroup have been able to purchase a large selection of the award-winning Mobilo construction toy.

Renowned for its durability and versatility, Mobilo is popular with both nurseries and schools for its educational value as they provide endless possibilities when it comes to making new creations.

Another unique aspect of Mobilo is the ability for children to build the same thing simultaneously which, in turn, helps to promote their learning and development skills in a classroom environment.

Energia employee Emma Hanvey nominated Dervock Playgroup to receive the £300 donation. She said: “Everyone is aware of the current cost-of-living crisis – and Helping Hands is a fantastic way of allowing local groups to purchase some equipment that would not otherwise be possible.”

Dervock Playgroup has been providing pre-school care for over three decades in the north Antrim village and is renowned for thecaring, happy, and stimulating environment it offers small children.

Dervock Playgroup leader Judith Irvine added: “In the playgroup we always listen to the voice of the kids – and Mobilo was on their wish list. We currently have a very small selection of it but will be able to provide more for the kids with this donation from Energia.”

Energia’s Helping Hands is a long-standing charitable scheme designed to support those causes in Northern Ireland that matter the most. It does this by giving staff the opportunity to nominate an individual, group or organisation to receive sponsorship knowing it can make a positive difference.
