Next of our local council candidate profiles for the Ballymoney DEA, is DUP’s Alan McLean.

Mr McLean is standing again for the DUP in the Ballymoney DEA.

Married to Helen with three sons, Alan has worked for over 35 years for a local building merchants.

Alan currently serves on the boards of two local school, Landhead PS & Ballymoney high school.

Being involved in a local business for so long and as a director of Ballymoney Regeneration Company, it has placed Alan in a good position to to know the issues that are affecting local businesses and the importance for promoting and encouraging business to the town.

Alan served briefly in council when he was co-opted in place of Mervyn Storey as new rules prevented Mervyn from sitting on council and serving as an MLA.

STATS

Alan returned to the 2014, this time fighting for a seat of his own and got 528 1st preference votes, eventually being elected at stage 12 taking the last seat in the Ballymoney DEA. This seat was taken without reaching the quota and just 9 votes clear of Sinn Fein’s Candidate Leanne Peacock.

MANDATE

-Alan has said that if elected again to council that investment in the community will be one of his priorities with support for local sports and arts clubs, while making community childcare accessible and affordable for parents.

-He has also championed the councils work at keeping local rates low, one of the lowest within Northern Ireland.

-Alan in his literature references his party confidence and supply agreement which he states public services in Ballymoney has received ‘millions of pounds of investment’. This included several project the likes of Ballymoney High School extension and Leaney PS.

-Reduce waiting lists, tackle mental health issues and improve care within the local communities.
