During today’s Prime Minister Questions in Westminster, the MP for East Londonderry Gregory Campbell, took his opportunity to speak to invite the PM to Royal Portrush.

Not only extending the invite to the PM Theresa May, but also to the two current candidates in the running for the top job, Boris Johnston and Jeremy Hunt.

Speaking afterwards PMQ’s Mr Campbell said,

“Northern Ireland was once known across the world almost exclusively for the Troubles. Today Northern Ireland is known across the world for many positive reasons but in particular our golfers and golf courses.

“It is an incredible honour for Royal Portrush to host the 148th Open. It sends all the right messages about Northern Ireland.

“As the local MP, I am working to help the region capitalise on this tournament and ensure there is a legacy for the area which helps jobs and investment.

“It would be tremendous to see both current and future PMs visit Royal Portrush. I know Mrs May has previously played pool with her Italian counterpart, I may not be much of a golfer but if they wish to visit the course after the tournament, I will give it a go.”

The Open Golf tournament is under two weeks away, when it’s expected 10’s if not 100’s of thousand of visitors will visit the North Coast over the week long event.
