Kilrea man Irwin Holmes has been awarded a BEM as part of this years Birthday Honours list by the Queen.
The BEM – for services to fundraising-was announced on Friday evening, recognising Irwin’s huge achievement over the past 30 to charity, particularly ‘Vision4Kids’.
The Charity, founded by Mr Holmes over 10 years ago, states that it’s a ‘Christian centred Children’s charity based in Northern Ireland with a vision of helping Children and young people worldwide wherever there is a need to improve the quality of life’ on its website.
The Charity has raised tens of thousands and hosts many fundraisers throughout the year.
Speaking about receiving his honour, Mr Holmes said;
“I am deeply humbled and delighted to be awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to fundraising.
In accepting the honour I do so on behalf of all those who helped me in any of my fundraising for various charities over the last 30 years and in particular for my own charity vision4kids over the last 10 years.

Local Councillor Ivor Wallace joined many in congratulating Me Holmes, saying;
“Absolutely delighted for Irwin Holmes. He works so hard for Vision for Kids and deserves this so much. Well done Irwin to you and your great team.”
Irwin joins over 70 others from Northern Ireland in receiving an award as part of The Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
