Detectives in Coleraine Criminal Investigation Branch have welcomed the sentence handed down to a 53 year old man at Coleraine court on October 20th.

Donal McCrossan, 53, was sentenced to complete 200 hours of community service and ordered to pay back the victim £10,000 after being convicted of two counts of fraud by false representation and three counts of forgery.

The sentencing was upheld at an appeal today.

Detective Inspector Peter McKenna said:

“This was a serious crime in which Donal has targeted his victim for his own personal gain. He forged signatures to make claims from insurance policies”.

“He has been ordered to repay the victim £10,000 and hopefully this will go some way in providing comfort and reassurance to them.

“I hope this sentencing sends out a clear message to anyone who thinks they can get away with this type of crime. We will work tirelessly to bring offenders before the courts so that that victims receive the justice they deserve.

“I would ask anyone who believes they are a victim of fraud to contact police on the non-emergency number 101.”
