Full page advert proposed by Council for Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance

Councillors on the Corporate and Policy committee last night discussed placing an advert in this years Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance programme to support RBL members, with UUP Cllr Darryl Wilson proud to propose the motion.

The motion would see Council take out a full page advertisement, if available, in the programme for this years Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance.

As Cllr Wilson explains;

“The ad will cost £1200, and even though Council are in a precarious financial position, and some members argued against my proposal, I could not in good conscience overlook the cost paid by members of our armed forces, past and present, the sacrifice paid by the brave servicemen and women of the United Kingdom which should always be acknowledged.

“All profits from the ad will go directly to the Royal British Legion. The RBL serves a very important purpose, to help members of the Armed Forces community and their families.

“They support serving and ex-serving personnel all year round, every day of the week. Their support starts after seven days of service and continues through life, long after service is over.”

The committee also voted on and passed a motion remembering War Veterans with the presentation of a Silver Poppy of Remembrance.
