EAST Londonderry MLA Maurice Bradley has contacted Council officials following a social media uproar over the Council’s Caravan Parks.
Speaking to our friends at Causeway Coast Community this evening he said:
“The numbers of individuals using Council’s caravan parks in the Borough is minimal, compared to the numbers likely to be using second homes, apartments and other private accommodation throughout the Causeway Coast and Glens Council area.
“Unfortunately, it is also evident that social distancing and the need to minimise travel is not being adopted universally therefore activity has been recorded from Benone to Waterfoot.
“In line with PHA guidance, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has already closed all public facilities.
“The use of Council’s caravan sites is under review, again subject to Government and PHA guidance, but there are clear commitments from local Government elected representatives who have taken the initiative, that action will happen early next week. These are unprecedented times.
Everyone is in this emergency together, no matter politics, religion, race, gender.
“This impending pandemic will have an effect on us all, and we all have a responsibility to act in a way to prevent the spread of this virus.
“That includes social isolation and restricting unnecessarily travel, should that be to a council or privately owned Caravan Park, a second home or apartment in the Borough.
The message is clear…Isolate and stay safe, for everyone’s sake.”
