Councillor John McAuley has revealed traffic figures for the village of Dervock which also show the levels of speeding through the rural village.
The Causeway Councillor has spoke out saying;

“Speeding within the Village of Dervock has been one of the main issues raised by concerned residents and rightly so.

Having witnessed it myself on several occasions, I have been working with the PSNI who recently agreed to locate a speed Indicator Device (SID) which has provided the following data.

Average vehicles recorded – 1323/day with an astonishing 796 of them exceeding the speed limit and a highest recorded speed of 77mph!!!!!!

These figures are frightening and I will continue to liase with the Local PSNI, Roads Policing Unit and Road Safety Partnership in order to address the situation, using the data patterns to refine Police deployment.

Please be assured that I will not let this issue drop until it is resolved.

If people don’t start driving responsibly through the Village, it’s only a matter of time before somebody is seriously injured or even killed.”
