A 88 year old pensioner named locally as Frankie Heggerty was taken to hospital following a crash involving another vehicle at the junction of the Bregagh Road and the Gracehill Road.

The occupants in the other car were tourists who pulled out from the Bregagh Road were the famous ‘Dark Hedges’ are situated, and into the oncoming Mr Heggerty.

This junction has been a hot spot for accidents especially tourists and even saw one American called Michael Munroe, while on honeymoon with his wife, die as a result of an accident last year. His wife was also injured but survived.

Speaking about the latest crash, local MLA Mervyn Storey said;

“I understand another accident has taken place at the Clintyfinnan crossroads. A local resident from Clintyfinnan was involved with a car of a tourist from the United States.
Just this week I received further correspondence from Roads Service following concerns that I had raised with the Area Manager calling for information leaflets and sat-nav improvements.
Regrettably in previous meetings and correspondence Roads Service has said that legislation does not facilitate the use of stop signs at this location.“Following this recent accident I believe that the only way now to prevent these accidents at this black spot is to introduce such signage.”
