As the North West 200 races were getting underway a private helicopter hit power lines. The incident happened close to the Magherabuoy Road in Portrush.

It is thought that up to fifty homes are still currently without power due to the incident.

A police spokesperson said;

Drivers are advised the Maclevennon Road,between Coleraine and Portrush, is closed between the BallywillanPresbyterian Church and the Magherabuoy Road to allow NIE engineers to carryout work on the power lines. Please seek an alternative route, if possible.”

Meanwhile at the North West 200 circuit, the 1st race of the day is currently in it’s third attempt due to red flags in it’s first two attempts.
