The announcement was made by Translink, Energia and Ballymena Bus Company Wrights, with support from the Department of Infrastructure and the Office of Low Emission Vehicles.

Commenting after attending the launch and signing of the contract, Mervyn Storey said:

This announcement is an indication of what can be achieved when there are strong partnerships between Government and private industry.

“This announcement is an indication of what can be achieved when there are strong partnerships between Government and private industry.

“The working partnership with Translink and Energia to supply the renewable sourced hydrogen fuel form an on shore North Antrim windfarm, coupled with a contract with Wright Bus in Ballymena to supply new sustainable fuel celled electric double decker buses powered by hydrogen, is not only a good news story for North Antrim but sets Northern Ireland public transport on the “Wright” direction.

“This announcement also is the first step in de-carbonising Northern Irelands public transport. With so much attention given to attaining zero emissions by 2040, this is a great start.”
